Cairns!

So after an early flight we arrived in humid, florida-like sleepy Cairns. We were pretty hungry when we got off the plane, so we tried to find something to eat. I felt like less of an ugly american with my family around (sorry guys). Well we arrived at 3 and in classic aussie style.... nothing was open. Things usually close at 2 to open back up at 5/530 for dinner. My family could not believe this phenomena. We only found out later, we had parked and in an effort to look for a guidebook recommended restaurant, we had ended up in the especially lame part of Cairns.... and 2 blocks away from the popping Cairns. But at that point, we really would have eaten anything. Anyways after lunch we headed off to our hotel the Thala Lodge halfway between Port Douglas and Palm Cove. It was beautiful! This outdoor/indoor wooden looking lodge. This was our view from the deck.

The true concerns of the Cairns Airport

We then walked down to the private beach of the lodge and saw this. Amazing huh? It's like being in those paradise posters.

And the public beach
